Fort Davis is home to Fort Davis National Historic Site, Davis Mountains State Park and Indian Lodge, McDonald Observatory, Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute and numerous businesses celebrating the western heritage of the area. Star parties, cycling, hiking, birding, hunting or taking the scenic loop tour are a few of the activities enjoyed by tourists and visitors throughout the year.

Fort Davis sets at an elevation of 5,050 feet above sea level and boasts one of the mildest and moderate climates in the United States with a yearly average high temperature of 76.3°F (average temperature in June being 90.3°F, the highest), average low temperature of 45.5°F (average temperature in January being 28.8°F, the lowest) and average yearly rainfall of just under 16 inches and more in the higher elevations of the Davis Mountains.
