About the Area

The Big Bend / Highland country of West Texas is basically unchanged from 100 years ago. It is comprised of mostly large ranches, which border our towns and still contribute significantly to the local economy. Wide-open spaces and ecological diversity are trademarks of the area. From the fertile farmland of the Presidio Valley to the vast, mile-high ranchland of the Marfa Plateau and desert savanna of the Davis Mountains, the Highland area is host to the highest elevations, the mildest climate and the most magnificent views in the state of Texas.
